Meet our Founder

Seat Spot is the brainchild of Eddie McGill who lives in Edinburgh and has had Ankylosing Spondylitis since he was 23 years old. This means that from a fairly young age he has experienced issues with mobility and fatigue. Years ago, the larger shops all had a few seats for their customers to use occasionally but gradually, and long before Covid, most of them disappeared.

This causes Eddie issues as he enjoys shopping but if there are no seats available, he will often have to cut short his shopping trip and either go back to the car or go to a Café to get somewhere to sit down. People with mobility and fatigue issues, like Eddie, don’t always want a coffee; they just want somewhere to sit for five minutes.

The lack of providing seats is potentially costing shops and businesses lost income as, if a customer like Eddie needs a seat and there are none available, he, along with anyone else shopping with him, will often have to end his shopping in that store. He will be forced to go elsewhere to get a seat, but due to a lack of seats in most stores, he will often end up cutting short his shopping trip and just go home. If seats were available, the people shopping with Eddie would be able to continue shopping and potentially spend more money within that store. Once rested, Eddie would also then be able to resume shopping and continue spending more of my money in that store. It is a win win situation for Eddie, for anyone else with me e.g., carers etc, and for Businesses.

All of us at Seat Sport are trying to make our High Streets more accessible, one seat at a time.
