Many shoppers with mobility and fatigue issues enjoy visiting the High Street and Shopping Centres but something has changed over the last few years which causes difficulties for the many people who experience mobility and fatigue issues daily. Very few stores and public buildings have any seating for customers.
These seats were greatly appreciated by people with limited mobility and fatigue who, from time to time, needed somewhere to sit while out shopping. Many stores have seats outside the changing rooms, but they are not there for customers who just need somewhere to sit down for a short space of time, and they are generally too low. There are lots of reasons why people of all ages experience limited mobility and fatigue including a variety of health and disability issues, old age and even pregnancy.
Businesses and all public buildings having some seats available will make them more inclusive which will have a far-reaching impact on a significant cross section of the local community.
The lack of seats is potentially costing businesses lost income as, if a customer with mobility and fatigue issues needs a seat and there are none available, they, along with anyone else shopping with them, will often have to end their shopping in that store. They will be forced to go elsewhere to get a seat, but due to a lack of seats in most stores, they will often end up cutting short their shopping trip and just go home.

The simple change of adding suitable seating to our high streets could significantly reduce isolation and give some of the most vulnerable members of our communities the confidence to once again do what others take for granted – go shopping.
