For business
We exist to encourage retailers, shops and councils to think about how their spaces could be used to accommodate seating to help people shop but also take a break when their conditions limit them.
Seat Spot encourages stores, both large and small, retail parks, public buildings and shopping centres to become a Seat Spot and provide a few accessible seats permanently somewhere within their premises but away from the changing rooms, so that customers with mobility and fatigue issues can still enjoy shopping in the same way that able bodied people can.
We can provide guidance on the most suitable types of seating i.e. height, arm support etc. We also provide window stickers, like those on buses, explaining that these seats are provided for people with mobility and fatigue issues, to be displayed in your premises entrance/shopfront.
This will mean that all stores will be able to continue to sell products and services to all their customers including those with mobility and fatigue issues. We believe we can create an inclusive environment that benefits shoppers and businesses alike - a win win situation for the customers, their carers or family, and for participating stores.
We believe we can create an inclusive environment that benefits shoppers and businesses alike. With customers being able to take a break in your store it can increase the amount of shopping time they can spend as well enabling their family members or carers to spend longer in your store and increase their buying potential.
If seats were available, the people shopping with the person who has mobility and fatigue issues would be able to continue shopping and potentially spend more money within the store.
The person with the mobility and fatigue issues, once rested, would also then be able to resume shopping and continue spending more of their money in that Store.
Potentially every person with mobility and fatigue issues could, at some time, benefit from having some seats available whilst in stores, retail parks, public buildings, and shopping centres. There are more than 12 million disabled people in the UK, with an estimated spending power of £249 billion. This could be hugely beneficial financially to businesses who simply provide a seat or two within their premises.
Increase shopper engagement
A good news brand story
The simple step of adding some supportive seating to your store can make a huge difference to some of the most vulnerable and isolated people in society. Your brand’s partnership with us in creating a more inclusive retail environment will help to show your commitment to all shoppers and making the high street a better place for everyone.
What we do for you
Our marketing pack
Participating shops and businesses are provided with branded window stickers which will be prominently displayed on their window or door. They will also be featured on Seat Spot’s social media pages including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter and on our website. Where appropriate there may also be opportunities for local press coverage when a new Seat Spot is established.
Our advice and support
We have a Chartered Physiotherapist on our Management Committee who would be able to give advice to participating businesses regarding the type of seating they will be expected to provide. It’s important the seats being provided aren’t too low and can’t be used by the people who really need them.
We ask that the seats which businesses provide are of a certain specification. The seats need to be firm and not too low down. Ideally the seat should also have arm rests to make it easier for folks to use. The following are approximate sizes of the ideal Seat Spot seat.
Width: 55 cm,
Depth: 51 cm
Seat width: 42 cm
Seat depth: 43 cm
Seat height: 46 cm
